Unlike other arachnids, which have their nerve cells evenly distributed along their bodies, the scorpion's nerve cells are clustered in its head, like a mammal's.
A bodies, the scorpion's nerve cells are clustered in its head, like a mammal's
B bodies, the scorpion's head had a cluster of nerve cells, as a mammal does
C body, the scorpions has a cluster of nerve cells in its head, as a mammal does
D body, nerve cells are clustered in the scorpion's head, like a mammal's
E body, a cluster of nerve cells is in the scorpion's head, like a mammal's
Ans is C
Def not B, (head had)
D and E are wrong -- Correct Unlike X, Y blah blah
A and C, X is a collective noun, (arachnids so make it it dogs for understanding the phrase, so unlike other dogs, the german shepard has a black tale.
Should it be german shepards or shepard so scorpion or scorpions
Sec should it be body or bodies
third -should it be like or as.
body or bodies - which is the proper usage.

Well the basic rule of comparison states that in the phrase Unlike X, Y both X and Y should be parallel. This parallelism can take different forms like
a) Nouns
b) Adjectives
c) etc...
In case of nouns the one way you can ensure parallelism is by making all the nouns agree in number.
Now look at your example
"unlike other dogs, the german shepherd has a black tale"
Is dogs parallel(plural) to german shepherd [singular]?
so to make it parallel you have to match the numbers
Hope it helps
Thanks

Oeps, 'its head' wouldn't be correct then... I'm confused now!
Don't we need to make scorpions parallel with other arachnids (two times plural)?
Btw... I still don't see why 'body' is the correct answer, what's the link with the dogs?!

We use "as a mammal does" instead of "as a mammal has" because the correct form would be:.maxime. wrote:And final... why don't we use 'as a mammal has'?
We also use 'scorpion has'...
Bob has one, as does Bill.
Opposed to "Bob has one, as has Bill"

their bodies, tends to signify that each arachnids has more than one body, which is impossible.suman2424 wrote:I can see why A and B are incorrect, but I dont understand why we use "body" oppsed to "bodies"
When I read the question, the first thing that came to my mind was bodies, no known organism can have more than one body. So eliminate A & B. Then came the idiomatic usage Unlike X, Y and D & E are eliminated...
