Some archaeologists claim that the tablets found at
Ebla could force a revision of current theories on the
origins of Judaism and Christianity, alter many
scriptural interpretations, make all current Bible
translations obsolete, and scholars may be required to
credit the Old Testament with greater historical
accuracy.

(A) scholars may be required to credit the Old
Testament with greater historical accuracy
(B) crediting the Old Testament with greater
historical accuracy may he required of scholars
(C) require that scholars are to credit the Old
Testament with greater historical accuracy
(D) crediting the Old Testament with greater
historical accuracy may be a scholarly requirement
(E) require scholars to credit the Old Testament with
greater historical accuracy

stuck between c and e. please explain why right answer is right and why wrong answer is wrong.

tip: parallelism,subjunctive

The correct idiom here is: require X to do Y.
The idiom require that X be Y is used in the subjunctive mood.
So, C is incorrect.

A, B and D are not parallel with the rest of the sentence .

E is idiomatically correct and parallel.

Thoughts ?

It is a parallelism SC.
current theories on the
origins of Judaism and Christianity, alter ,make and require....

So the correct choice is E. Hope its clear now.

C) require that scholars are to credit the Old
Testament with greater historical accuracy

C is wrong because it breaks parallelism and also the subjunctive rule. It uses are, which is a form of to be.
