Potentially recyclable

Currently about 70 percent of all urban households recycle some portion of their
garbage, 25 percent more than did ten years ago. This increase can be
attributed , in part , to the fact that a larger portion of the population is now under
the age of 47.
Of the following, which can be most properly inferred from the passage
above?
A. Of those who currently recycle, at least 70 percent recycle less than 25
percent of what is potentially recyclable.
B. Younger people are generally more conscientious about waste disposal
than are older people.
C. People under the age of 47 are more likely to recycle than are their older
counterparts.
D. The overall population has risen by at least 25 percent in the past ten
years.
E. People currently over the age of 47 recycled more often ten years ago.

Mixed with C and E. How to choose?

I go with C, because it states an obvious inference.
But the question is a must be true question. and the stimulus is accepted and the answer choices are suspicious. If you choose E it is like your are finding a flaw in the reasoning of C.Also we don't have any information about the actions of the different generations that were taken in the past. Choosing E means that you have assumed that answers are correct and the stimulus is under suspicion.

Inference: MUST BE TRUE

FOr E: Their can be a 80 year old, who was 70 ten years back and recycled the same as now.

I hope it helps in clearing your confusion.
Please press "thanks" if you think my post has helped you.. Cheers!!

it is irrelevant.
The stimulus is not about waste disposal it's about recycling

In E it says [people over age 47 recycled more 10 yrs back....

consider those people who are presently say 70 yrs old then 10 yrs back they were 60 , and we dont have any info about this age group...hence E is may be or may not be case

Clearly C is the winner

Choice C rephrases the conclusion that a larger portion of the population is under 47 and this age group is the reason for the increase in percentage of recycling
