(1) x^4 is even

(2) 4x is even

AnswerA

Since x is an integer, x must be ODD or EVEN.

Statement 1: x is even
If x is odd, then x = (odd)(odd)(odd)(odd) = odd, which does not satisfy the statement.
Thus, x must be even.
SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: 4x is even
It's possible that x=1, in which case x is odd.
It's possible that x=2, in which case x is even.
INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is A.
