Hi All,

We're told a SQUARE's side is increased from 5 units long to 6 units long. We're asked for the percentage increase in the AREA of the square.

Percentage Change = (New - Old)/(Old)

Area of the "old" square = (5)(5) = 25
Area of the "new" square = (6)(6) = 36

Percentage Increase = (36 - 25)/(25) = 11/25 = 44%

Final Answer: E

The old area is 25 and the new area is 36, so the percent increase is:

(36 - 25)/25 x 100

11/25 x 100 = 11 x 4 = 44%
