female students

by vscid » Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:48 pm
A survey of American business schools concludes that female students are more concerned about job discrimination than male students.

(A) female students are more concerned about job discrimination than male students.
(B) female students are more concerned about job discrimination than male students are
(C) female students, as opposed to male students, are more concerned about job discrimination
(D) female students are more concerned about job discrimination than male students are concerned
(E) female students are more concerned about job discrimination than their male counterparts
The GMAT is indeed adaptable. Whenever I answer RC, it proficiently 'adapts' itself to mark my 'right' answer 'wrong'.

IMO B for the same reasons mentioned above.
But I have a question.. Is the following choice better than B ??

female students are more concerned about job discrimination than are male students.

I am not sure whether this is right.. so pls comment
Thanks

I think they are both correct, and it is good to know both options.

If someone knows any difference between these two constructions, I would like to know more.

Thanks,

Not completely sure, but I think the choice with "are" in the middle is used more often in written english BUT the one where 'are' ends, is use more often in spoken english.

I am interested in knowing more as well.
