How many odd integers are greater than the integer X and less than the integer Y?

1) There are 12 even integers greater than X and less than Y.

2) There are 24 integers greater than X and less than Y.

Statement 1: Consider the following two cases,
  • 1. X = 1 and Y = 25 --> 12 even and 11 odd integers between X and Y
    2. X = 1 and Y = 26 --> 12 even and 12 odd integers between X and Y
Not sufficient

Statement 2: As there are 24 integers between X and Y, half of them will be odd and half of them will be even.

Sufficient.

The correct answer is B.

perfect explanation anurag :)

Statement 1 : two cases (odd< N < Odd ) and (odd < N < Even)
No of odd values tht N can take varies. Hence Insufficient.

Statement 2 :
Even no of numbers between two extremes. therefore there should be equal no of odd and even nos.
12 odd and 12 even.
hence sufficient.
