Can n e 1 explain what exactly the q stem is asking for
The Asian American History Association receives approximately 1,000 proposals each year from individuals who wish to present papers at its annual meeting. The association's officers would like to ensure constant standards of quality in the presentations from year to year. The officers have therefore decided to accept for presentation each year only the best 300 papers selected on the basis of the quality of the proposals submitted.
Of the following, the best criticism of the officers' plan is that the plan assumes that
(A) Professional associations cannot accept all papers submitted for presentation at their annual meetings.
(B) The total number of proposals submitted to the association will remain at approximately 1,000 in future years.
(C) Each proposal submitted to the association deserves to be considered a serious candidate for presentation.
(D) It is difficult to judge the quality of a paper on the basis of the proposal alone.
(E) The best 300 papers submitted to the association for presentation will be of the same quality from year to year.
It does not matter how many times you get knocked down , but how many times you get up

guess the question asks us to find the faulty assumption that the association makes

If the 300 papers chosen will NOT be of the same equality in the future, how that constitutes a flaw in the reasonig of the author ?

I don't see any where an indicator to assume so.

I choose D. If they assume that it is hard to judge a peper from it's proposal, maybe they do not consider all 1000 papers.

As per the stem the officer wants to maintain the constant standard of quality year on year and then decide to select the 300 paper every year-- this assume that the 300 paper which they will get will be of same quality every year else there judgement to maintain the quality every year is false...

As per Power prep bible to validate a assumption...just negate it and it should weaken the argument and E passes the test.

Sure E passes the negation test, but how about B. Also, logically if they assume that the 300 will be of the same quality, would that make them take more applications ? In other words, what is wrong with assuming choice E ?
Apologize for the trouble.

If i understand your question, why B is not the right answer? Here it is important to undestand the conclusion and premise of argument. Having 1000 application is premise and selecting 300 application is conclusion. Assumption here should strengthen and fill the gaps of the conclusion. If i consider B as option it signify that the application will remain more or less 1000. But does it help to conclude that if the application remain 1000 the quality of 300 application will remain the same year on year. The key of this question is every year.

Why it is a faulty assumption to assume that the quality of the 300 Applications will remain the same ?

Say the quality of the 1000 papers declines next year. I will choose the best 300 even if the quality declines.

This is what I understood from the question. I couldn't sense any issue raised about the importance of quality of the 300 papers except in their relationship to the 1000 proposals.

Hope I articulated my point well. Please explain. sorry again for the bother.
