IMO A. Because "board of directors reckoned" we need to use Singular "it". Also, the other choices use passive voice or wordy.

the option B and E makes improper use of idiom , "not only but also"

C , D and E uses the plural form "Their" where as "it" is apt.

so we are left with only A, which should be the answer.

JEnIUS, i agree that the subject in the sentence is "Board", as per Manhattan, but can Board vote ? or do the Directors vote ? I think the subject can be from a prepositional phrase. Would not that make D right ?

just to answer your question , there is also another element of parallism in the question

not only ......but also

A follows it ,D doesnt

not onlt their greatest but also (their ) missing
