Can I aim at Stanford and NYU Stern?

by SerenaTTT » Sun Apr 22, 2012 11:27 pm
I just finished my GMAT test today:

Quantitative: 50 (92%)
Verbal: 37 (82%)
Total: 710 (92%)

I have over 7 years experience in Banking, and now working in a top Investment bank in Singapore, with a role in Operations Control.
Prior to my current job, I worked in a Shanghai for 6 years, - 2 years in a National bank, 4 years in global top commercial banks.
I am female, non-native English speaker.

Although I aimed to get a higher score, 730-750 ideally, but this is the score i got today.

Can I still aim at Stanford and NYU Stern with this score? Appreciate your opinions. thanks,

With a strong application package I think you have a legitimate shot at either school, and I think at least in the case of NYU you stand a pretty good chance of getting in (I know more about Stern Admissions than I do about Stanford). Your score is just a bit under the average of 715 at NYU, and your work experience puts you above averages at either school.

What I can suggest is to invest a bit of time in your essays and make as good of a sales pitch as you possibly can. If you have any extracurricular activities or volunteer experiences, make sure those are noted as well.

I don't think there's any reason for you not to apply to both Stanford and NYU. Don't get flustered, I'd go for it!

Hi Serena, Congrats for your score. You have done good job of scoring 710. Although I'm not the correct person to answer this but still have observed that you need to score 720+ for aiming at Stanford but as you have enough work exp and 710 GMAT score you can give it a try and keep us updated.

Thank you very much campbellronald7 for your nice response. I also feel the same and will retake the test.
I may need some more practice to do it better. Will try to perform steadily in the next test.

Thanks again,
Serena
