am I too old ?

Hello guys

My first post here. I took the GMAT in 2007 - got 620 ( V 76 M 65). I wasnt happy with this. My practice test scores were 680/660. As I am a graduate of the universityof london and its free fo us to apply to LBS - I went ahead and applied. Predictably, I was rejected.

This year i am going for it again. my target schools are chicago, nyu stern, wharton and lbs. aiming for 700 in the gmat. Problem - i am 33yrs of age - 34 in Nov of this year. I most probably have left it toolate for 2009 entry, but will still try. i realise that 2010 is looking more realistic.

i just wanted to know if i have left my mba dreams a bit too late. I personally dont think so - but would like to knoW what ppl think.

And SCB - do you provide consulting for candidates in London, UK ?

Dear combo,

You will be on the high end of the age range for most full-time MBA programs. However, I do not think that should preclude you from applying. You will just want to make sure you convey why now is the right time. Since you probably have 10+ years of experience, you could also consider Executive MBA programs.

It is not too late to apply for fall 2009 entry as applications are starting to be released by schools now and the final deadline will be in spring 2009.

Thanks Lisa. I started my undergrad course when I was 22. It was in Medicine - and it went on for 6 years. SHould have been 5, but I dropped a year due to illness.

For the last 6 yrs I have been working as a physician. My interest is Finance - and the MBA is for a career change. This fall, I intend to do a graduate diploma in financial engineering in London - lasts for 9 months.
Should be finished by June 09 - and hopefully, with a better GMAT, make my app stronger. I need to apply by the 2nd round latest, as I am an international candidate for US schools.

What do you reckon ?

Dear Combo,

The second round deadlines for most schools will in in January 2009, so I think you could apply while you are in your other program. It is a matter of what you think you want to do. Otherwise, you will work for one year before enrolling in business school and I'm not sure if that makes the most sense unless you already have a plan for that. Just be sure to take your GMAT by November of this year in the event you decide to submit applications in January. Basically--it is what you feel works best for you.
