Should I take GMAT now???

by riteshbindal » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:53 pm
Hi,
My target score is around 750. I was not scoring well 2 - 3 weeks back (Scored 710 in GPREP 1 repeat and 680 in MGMAT). Then I got engaged in some work and didn't study for almost a couple of weeks.
Yesterday I took MGMAT test 4 and scored 740 (Q47 V45).
My friends suggested me to take GMAT ASAP because this is the high curve and later on my curve may go down :? I know this is strange logic but want to take expert's views on this.
Is it true that later on my performance may go down or if I study regularly for a month, my performance will go up?
Pretty vague question, but I can give you any detail you want.

Thanks.

Hi Ritesh,

I believe if you practise for a month, there is no point that you loose your consistency. But I would like to ask you one thing, if you can take GMAT Now and you are confident about scoring your target score, why would you delay further? It doesn't make any sense at all.

Also, if you stretch you test date further and you are almost done with your tests and a factor of boredom will come in place. Whenever you will revise the same old material, I believe you won't be not so enthusiastic as you were when you studied before.

However, if you feel that there are certain grey areas where you need to work, and you can improve. I would say take your time.

Looking forward to hear a great debrief!

Hope this Helps

Thanks Karan for replying so quickly!

Actually I want to score like around 50 - 51 in Maths. Considering that I am from engineering background and have not studied maths for GMAT till now, I should be able to achieve more. You know, man is greedy :)
Also, this was just one test where I got 740. There is no guarantee that I will score the same in GMAT also. So I am thinking to take some more tests and go forward.
Your point of boredom is right. Actually I am just studying SC since a month and now I am getting pretty bored and also confused as which material is authentic to practice more SCs etc. Do you know apart from OG, any good material for Math and SC which match the level of tough GMAT questions?

Thanks again for your help!

hi,

it depends on what you want to improve on. i think if you're already at a 47 in Q, there's not much more you can do preparation-wise other than improve your timing. If this is the case, then I'd recommend you take at least 2 more full length tests to see if you can hold your scores steady. Whether you get a 50 or 51 the actual test will really just come down to your stress level on d-day - and no practice test can predict that. So in a nutshell, I wouldn't put off the test too much longer.. maybe a week or so at the latest.
my GMAT debrief: https://www.beatthegmat.com/came-through ... 44327.html

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right, but it will not come near you.

I agree with Shadowsjc that Q50/51 depends on the D-day!

What you can do is try out few more tests to check whether you are scoring well in the range of your target score.

For Quant, I am the wrong person to consult, I didn't study Quant other than GMAT Prep Q's :D :D :D :D

For SC, 1000 SC's can be good practise material( but beware some of the answers are wrong and you need to verify them from forums etc)

Revise your own notes( I am sure you would have made notes of your own by now)
Go through Bangus Brutal, P. Sahil and Adam John notes

Hope this Helps
