Profile evaluation

by tanaysharma » Sun Feb 28, 2010 3:31 am
Hello Everybody,

I am new on "beat the gmat". I am currently residing in New Delhi, India. I am 24 years old. I am a graduate in Chemical Engineering. I have done both Btech and Mtech in Chemical Engineering through a 5 year course. I graduated from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2009 and joined Indian Oil Research and Development Center. I have been working there since august 2009. My GPA is 3.95 out of 5. My current job is in the petroleum sector. I have 3 questions.

1) Since my job profile is R&D. How is it going to affect my prospects when I apply for Gmat. Is a changeover required in the job?
2) I do not know the procedure and the timeline/ deadlines for applying for GMAT. When would it be right for me to give GMAT and send out applications. (I have "heard" that 2 years work ex is good before applying is this right?). How many Recommendations etc are required.
3) What effects if any would my writing CFA level 1 have on my application to a B School in the States?

Hi Tanay,

You seem to be all over the place. I want you to get clear in your goals. Right now, you come off as an extremely confused candidate.

1. Have you thought about pursuing PhD in Chemical Engg in US? There are some amazing programs here.
2. If you are planning to take GMAT - WHAT is the purpose? What is it that you plan to accomplish after taking your GMAT?
3. Why do you want to take CFA after having a pure R&D chemical engg background?
4. Are you planning to go for you MBA in US? If so, why? What is the motivation behind this thinking?

If you need further guidance, do give these questions a thought.
