MS program in a business School

by nehs » Tue Sep 14, 2010 4:19 am
I am confused about why many schools market their MBA program over MS. Even though the school offers an MS program, the admission reps seem to talk only about their MBA program and also say that MBA is for those who do not have an under grad degree in Business. I am keen on applying to MS programs, with over 4 years work exp.,and not to MBA. the MS courses that I am loooking at(MIS) is in the business school and thus I need to give GMAT.
I am wondering if I should reconsider my decision to do MS instead of MBA. I am keen on a master's level thesis too. After my MS, my plan is to work in the industry for a few years, later on, I might contemplatate an MBA.

Experts and Friends, can you help me with why admission committees seem to advocate only MBA? Is MS not a choice worthwhile?

The MBA is designed to give you the skills you need to be successful in business. The MS focus is more academic. Employers primarily look to hire from MBA programs. If you are pursuing a business career, the MBA makes more sense.

A technical MS will focus on technical skills. If you feel you need both those and the business skills offered by an MBA try looking at a joint program.
