Audio Flashcards

by tngearhart » Mon Jul 24, 2006 11:42 am
I printed off Eric's flashcards and then read them outloud into a tape recorder. I commute about an hour to work one way. I review the cards each day and then listen to the tapes. I end up being able to see the cards in my mind as I hear the tape. It's a nice way to drill the topics into my head. I went back and recorded any cards in topics where I was having trouble. In all I have about two hours of taped gmat review that help me stay focused.

I'll be so glad when I can stop listening to them.

Any chance you can digitize those audiotapes and share them on this forum?

Not sure, Let me look into it. If nothing else I could rerecord them into the audio recorder on my PC and send out the wav file. Let me figure out what I can do.

If you go open Adobe Reader, there is a feature that the program reads the document that you have. It doesn´t work with all documents, but it does with the ones that are not a copy of something. I tried it a little while ago with Eric´s flashcards. The bad thing is that the reading is just horrible, but at least is an option. I don´t know if you guys can take it, I just can´t. Anyway to get into this option open adobe, then go to view and then go to read out loud.

Thanks tngearhart. Don't worry about it if it's too much trouble.

If this site earns enough ad revenue and donations, I may hire a professional to record these flashcards.

Can't help now.

by tngearhart » Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:03 pm
I've gotten a lot of requests for my audio recordings. I appreciate the interest. My problem is that I get home from work around 7PM and play with my kids for a while. Then I talk with my wife, and if I'm lucky I get in a few hours of GMAT study. I know that converting the analog tapes to digital will take me a few hours of playing around with wires and software. I don't want to take the time right now.

I would suggest that if you think that an audio recording of the flashcards would help you, you should just take niney minutes and read them into a recording device. The process will help you remember the concepts. I felt like this was a good thing for me because now my flashcards are organized in the same order as I read them into my cassette tapes.

I'd like to help everyone, but really you'd be better recording them yourself for the experience.

I was going through the posts and came across this one because I've thought about this very idea. I know I've rehashed an old post, but I think it's pertinent today since smart phones are so prevalent now. Anyone out there who has the iphone can simply create their own Flashcard recordings granted I hate the way I sound when recorded, but I'm willing to suck it up for a couple months...

there are many applications out there with test materials, but they're more for testing purposes rather than drilling purposes... has anyone done this and found it to be helpful during a commute maybe?
