Need Help about exam strategy

Hi all,

Feb end I started preparing for GMAT. I am an engg student so not facing much of a problem in maths. Verbal, as usual, is creating trouble for me also. I have studied Manhattan SC also after that my SC correction is about 80% but my CR is still 55% and RC 50%. Do help me . I tried for PP test and got Maths 49 and Verbal 33.
After that I tried for 800score verbal test , there also I got a score of 30 and correctness of 50% only.
How to improve(700+) as I have to write the exam within April.

Hi Malik,

I was also really bad at verbal. What I have observed in my course of preparation is that if you prepare for hard content , everything equal to and below that level seems manageable.
Therefore I started working on the LSAT verbal that has level higher than that of GMAT verbal. RCs are longer and tougher and CRs are trickier. Plus LSAT books have lots of tips to help you master the CR and RC. So, I would suggest you to get some LSAT material and master that. After you do that GMAT verbal would seem like a piece of cake. This strategy has helped me improve tremendously in the verbal section. And of course, keep practicing!

Hi, Malik

Just a note - your post focuses on your percent correct, but you should be aware that percentage correct is not the primary way in which we can boost scores on this test. The primary issue is the difficulty level of the questions you're answering - difficulty level is the primary determinant of your GMAT score.

I have heard from others that studying LSAT material is useful. For RC and CR, there is no content you need to know (no rules, no facts, etc., to memorize). Here, your main tool will be process of elimination: recognizing wrong answers and eliminating them.

Go back and analyze past practice problems and tests and pay a lot of attention to why the four wrong answers are wrong. If you can identify wrong answers, you are well on your way to finding the right answer.

I would also get some sort of book that can help you with CR and RC techniques. We have a book for this (about to become two separate books with more material in a couple of weeks, if you can hold out that long). The other major companies also have books with strategies / techniques; ask around to see which ones people like best. (And, of course, there's a ton of great materials on this web site.)

A Public library should have reasonable amount of LSAT material.

Besides that, I find Kaplan LSAT helpful. I also picked up tips from The Princeton Review - Cracking the LSAT.

The official site for LSAT, LSAC has a free sample test to download.

Here is a link of LSAT blog https://lsatblog.blocked/. This site discusses real LSAT arguments and RCs.

I have used and found the above material helpful. You can find some more resources that may aid your preparation.
