Well, if you're stumped, maybe start backwards. What I mean is FIRST think about your top three stories (in terms of results, leadership, business actions - stuff that makes you look GOOD) and then see which one fits the best:
Do I have leadership? check.
Is there some global issue involved in the story? check.
And then you can push the story towards the question.

Voila!

I agree with Jon in that the question is contextual. You are not expected to write an entirely theoretical essay about leadership in the generic workplace. You might look at this in terms of macro and micro events, the macro being trends or events that have globally shaped your career and specific instances of leadership within an international context. But the way we are addressing the questions with our clients is based on already knowing where they have displayed leadership and their international exposure.

Best of luck,

I agree this is tough, and surprising actually given that admissions folks are generally most keen to learn about you. This question makes that objective more challenging.

Here is the actual question:

Share your perspective on leadership in the workplace and describe how it has been shaped by the increasing influence of globalization.

If you were my client, I would advise you to recognize that there are really two parts to this question. And whereas you can't ignore part 2 (influence of globalization)I would spend at least 50%, and more likely 75% of the essay talking about your views on leadership in the workplace. And your view should be informed by mentors you have had/witnessed, mistakes you have made and corrected, theories on leadership you have read and perhaps successfully tested...The key is still the same as in other years. While still answering the question, try to fit in your most compelling examples of workplace leadership victories and learnings.

Then, tie that into what you have learned or read about globalization, the former of course is better if you indeed have personal relevant stories. Have you managed global projects, have you had to work with a global counterpart on a litigation. have you had to deal with cultural differences...?and what have these "global" experiences taught you about leadership versus perhaps what you thought before.

I hope this helps.
