My query on GMAT prep !!

by amitansu » Wed Feb 27, 2008 10:10 am
Hi all,

Though i posted my introduction already on 'introduction' thread, i still want to do it as i am creating a new thread by puting this query.

My name is Amit, an engineer by prof.Work for General Electric, India.
This is my 9th year of work !! Better late than never, i decided to go to business school and so is the GMAT on sceen.

My query is : Is it suggestable to take the GMAT prep test before i really sit down with all those books !!I mean absolutely without any prior prep ?

- Currently i have only OG for GMAT 10th edition.
What are other books that you suggest apart from OG Quant & OG Verbal ?

From a normal assessment i can say i am good at quant i.e. PS & DS.
But weak in verbal i.e. especially in CR & RC.

Amit

If you want to get a baseline score before you start to seriously prep, then go ahead and take a practice test. If you want to save all your tests, then read up about the test itself, and do at least 20-25 questions of each type first, before taking a test. You can really go either way.

The OG is essential for your practice. I would add Cracking the GMAT for strategy. Get the one with the DVD so you can also take the practice tests. I thought they were very good, as close to GMATPrep as I could find.

thanks,

My personal preference is to save the GMATPrep tests. Why? Simply because they are the very best indicators for the real GMAT and you can only take the test twice (unless you reinstall the software at which point you may see the same problems again). I do not see the benefit of taking the test without any prep whatsoever - would anyone really go into the actual GMAT exam without studying at all? I doubt it - so why would you take the GMATPrep without studying at least a little first?

These OG verbal and quantitative books are of latest editions which are available in market ?

Please help me suggesting some indispensable books that i must have for my prep.
My target period is 5 months at the max down the line and target score is 750.Basically weak in Verbal portion i.e. CR and RC.
