Which one?

by swhc » Sat Jan 09, 2010 8:26 pm
hi

I am an older applicant and have applied to both Stanford Sloan program which offers MS Management degree and Wharton EMBA programs. I am still not decided which one to pursue. I like Stanford brand (my dream school), but it offers MS Management degree whereas Wharton EMBA offers MBA degree. Stanford does not have anything equivalent to EMBA program.

Which one should I choose and Why?

Thanks for your help

Have you been accepted to both programs?

Got admitted to Stanford MS Management Sloan program. Likely to get accepted to Wharton EMBA and Berkeley-Columbia EMBA. Don't know which one to pursue.

First off, congratulations!

I can't really advise you based on the information provided. If I were in your shoes,I would look at employment opportunities upon graduation. Where do graduates of these programs end up? if most of them stay with their current employer, where are most of them working? Also look at the programs themselves. Which suits your needs more effectively?

hi

I am debating between the following programs:

* MS Management from Stanford Business School
* Wharton MBA
* Columbia MBA
* Haas MBA

I am looking at general management and not any specific specialty. My goal is to join a Fortune 500 and move up the management ranks. Given my goal, can you help rank the above programs?

Thanks

You really have excellent options. If you have acceptances from these top MBA programs, look at employment stats for grads and look at the curriculum to see simply which you would prefer. While all these programs have national, indeed international reputations and alumni, geography still plays a role. If you want to stay on the West Coast, I would lean towards Stanford and Haas. if you wanted to stay on the East Coast, then I would lean towards Wharton and Columbia. If it doesn't make a difference to you and you twist my arm for an opinion given the little information you provided above, I would probably rank them as follows: Stanford, Wharton, Haas, Columbia. But again, you have great options and really can't go wrong.

Best,
Linda

Thank for your detailed response. Appreciate it.

However, here is my dilemma. Stanford offers MS Management degree whereas others offer MBA degree. How is MS Management viewed? Is it viewed in similar regard as MBA?

Thanks again

The MS from the Stanford Sloan Fellows program is very highly regarded and MBA equivalent, but as I wrote in my earlier post, check the employment report for the Stanford Sloan program compare it to the employment report for the other programs that accepted you.

Best,
