by pradeepkaushal9518 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:20 am
in recent years attacks by Doberman on small children have risen dramatically, last year saw 35 such attacks in the continental united states alone, an increase of almost 21 % over the previous year's total. clearly then it is unsafe to keep dogs as pets if one has small children in the house.

the argument above depends upon which of the following assumptions?

A. no reasonable justification for these attacks by Doberman on small children has been discovered.
B. other house hold pets such as cats dont display the same violent tendencies thats dogs do.
C. the number of attacks by Doberman on small children will continue to rise in coming years.
D. a large percentage of the attacks by doberman on small children could have been prevented by proper raining.
E. the behavior towards small children exhibited by Doberman is representatives of dogs in general.

plz explain yr answers

is the answer E ??

Dobberman seems to be the representative of all dog population. Thats why we have in the argument,
numbers derived about dobberman, and then the conclusion that its unsafe to keep dogs.

Nice CR to understand the basics.

Premise/evidence tals abt Doberman and the conclusion makes a generic claim about Dogs. SO there is "gap"

To bridge this gap , we need to "assume" Doberman" is a representative of "Dogs"

E : Before Denial Test:

E. the behavior towards small children exhibited by Doberman is representatives of dogs in general

After Denial Test:
E. the behavior towards small children exhibited by Doberman is NOT representatives of dogs in general.

You see that!! The whole conclusion falls apart! Bingo..
Pick E
