Requesting Profile Evaluation

by arsh.87 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 1:56 am
Hi,

A very happy new year!

My profile is as follows. Please inform me which schools I might target with this profile:

GMAT: 660 V31 Q49
TOEFL: 109
Work Experience: 44 months(by August 2013).
Indian IT Female - with a different career path.

Career:
Worked as a software engineer in a major IT firm for 2 years and then changed jobs to come closer to home when my mother fell ill. One progression from trainee to permanent employee happened in the old firm- for which I had to score 4.95 out of 5 cgpa during training, which was a very high score by any standards. The job closer to home job was that of an IT executive in a small real estate marketing firm. In that firm, I not only created online marketing campaigns(websites, promotions, etc.), I also participated in other work such as recruiting, process audit preparation, marketing strategy meetings, etc. That is when I realized my ability to analyze things and became interested in management consulting. Then again, found another job closer to home, which i took because it had lighter workload and I could prepare for the GMAT, etc. Will be taking the GMAT this month and hope to get a jump of atleast 50-60 points. But, the profile now is that of an IT support executive, which is hard to explain without telling how i took that job so as to prepare for MBA admissions.

Academics: Strong academics.
Training at work: 4.95 out of 5.00 CGPA.
Engineering College gpa: 3.5 (Studied the first year on full scholarship- the duration was just one year, it wasn't like i lost it due to gpa issues). Based on academic merit.
School: Studied in my 10th standard on full scholarship.

Social Welfare: Fairly Strong (In my opinion)
At work helped organize various charity events.
But main social work was during college days. As member of Rotaract club helped organize various social welfare events. Became EDITOR and then organized events, one of which specifically earned a good amount of money(exact amount in resume). Then was appointed CHAIR(committee)- continued to make a difference, Organized some events in conjunction with corporate firms. Also organized a charity mini marathon. (have certificates, newspaper clippings and photos etc for all of these events in case adcom asks).
Even after college and before joining my first job, I was working as a volunteer for a healthcare related NGO.

Achievements: Same as above. Mainly I was always top of the class in school and through most of college. Studied on Merit-Based Scholarships. Worked efficiently in Rotaract club(youth wing of Rotary club) to go from member to editor to chair(committee)! Won cross country race during college.

Passion: Organizing events. Working to help people.

Other Activities: Participating in various cultural events- dancing, etc.

Goal: Short-term- to become a management consultant. Long-term: work in same org till I become CEO. Even more long term goal: become a social entrepreneur and set up my own firm to genuinely reach the needy.

Concern: Low GMAT(for now). Will be re-taking GMAT this month.
Target Schools: None as yet. Am preparing for Maryland Smith. But as you can see, I know I will score a very high GMAT score, that is why wish to know if I could apply in round 2 with a lower score to certain schools and then update the score later.

Please evaluate my profile. This is much of what I have in my profile. Please inform me what are some of the institutes I can apply to with the present profile. And also what schools would I be able to target with a GMAT score os 50 points or higher.

Well, if your goal is to get into management consulting, the best path for you is of course to do exactly what you are doing - meaning retake the GMAT get at least 40 points higher, and apply to the best schools which make sense.

Given your background in tech, which makes things a wee bit harder) and the fact that you are female (makes things a wee bit easier), and the rest of the info, we really have to see what you pull on your GMAT to figure out where would be the right place to apply....

But for now, let's just assume you get a 720. With a 720 and your solid GPA, and well-written essays, Top 10 will be challenge schools BUT with a possibility of an accept, and 10-25 (very approximate, also depends ont he rankings) will really be your sweet spot.

for the moment, I would look at those schools and see which ones appeal to you most. For Management Consulting, you can certainly get trained at any program, although you definitely will want to look at hiring statistics and top recruiters to see who and how many are going into consulting from a specific school, and to which firms...

Good luck on your GMAT!

And if you have any other questions, just post again.. Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to hearing your much higher GMAT score!!!

:)
