Egg ratio problem.

Four jars each contain n eggs. By moving some eggs from the first jar to other jars, the number of the eggs in the jars became 1: 4: 5: 6. How many eggs, in terms of n, were moved out from the first jar?

A. n/3
B. n/2
C. 3n/4
D. 2n/3
E. 5n/6

Im getting C 3N/4

Easiest way is to solve for N as you know the number of jars and total number of eggs.

4n = 1+4+5+6

4N =16

N=4

So each jar started with 4 eggs. 3 eggs were moved out of the jar amongst 4 jars. 3N/4

1+4+5+6=16 so,

16/4 =4 can be our n in this question

since we only have 1 egg left in the first one 3 eggs are gone only C gives us 3 when n = 4

let x be the number of eggs removed from 1st Jar.

therefore

(n-x)/(n+x) = 1/(4+5+6)

solve for x
x= 3N/4
