Improving resumes

by radbuz » Thu Oct 04, 2012 10:22 am
Hello,
I'm Nikhil. I am in the final year of engineering from University of Delhi.I plan to do an MBA 4-5 years down the line.Currently my percentage is close to 75 with a couple of semesters to go.I have got a very good job in a consulting firm and planning to work there after completion of engineering.Presently my resume is not very great.I have done a couple of technical internships,a few minor projects.I have worked with an NGO for a year.I have also worked as a writer for an online magazine. I would like to know where i stand currently and what i can do so that my application is accepted by leading b-schools.Please guide me on how to find the right b-school and how to start preparing.

Well, you have a loooooong way to go!!
So it's good that you are starting early.

First thing I would say is make sure you take a job in which you have LEADERSHIP opportunities. These can be the strongest things you can develop. Second, start thinking NOW about where you want to/can volunteer for the next five years. If you start early with something you love, you can really make a difference, and boost your profile. (Big names are usually better).

Other than that, try and get your GMAT out of the way one or even two years BEFORE you plan to apply, it will make your life sooooooo much easier!!!
