I think D is the answer.

Regarding 'C', I don't believe that coronary events actually strike people but, even if they do, "once in every 26 seconds" seems incorrect. I think you can remove "in" from that phrase, leaving "once every 26 seconds".

Here is why:


American Heart Association researchers have calculated that one person in the United States should experience a coronary event every 26 seconds.

one person in the United States should experience a coronary event every 26 seconds -->INCORRECT: verb here is "have calculated" and hence using 'should' logically doesn't make sense.

a person in the United States should experience a coronary event once in every 26 seconds -->INCORRECT: completely changes the meaning by stating that one person will experience coronary event every 26sec, however the implied meaning should be " 1 person every 26 seconds in Us will experience coronary event .

a coronary event will strike one person in the United States once in every 26 seconds -->INCORRECT: same as B, changing the meaning.

every 26 seconds a person in the United States will experience a coronary event -->CORRECT: This is what researchers have calculated, 1 person every 26 sec will face this issue.

every 26 seconds a person in the United States should experience a coronary event -->INCORRECT: basically a reversal of option A, but for same reason this is Incorrect as well.

It is clear that this question is similar a question in OG10

"one" is wrong because "one" refer to a specific person. No logic

"once" is redundant.

the problem is with "should"

on GMAT land, "should" is used to show obligation although in traditional grammar, in grammar books, "should" can be used to show possibility----I think this is what gmat want us to think. Yes, we have to think so

that is my idea about "should" here

Hi,

Could someone help to give a more clear and detailed explanation for this one, as I still could not understand the problem to option C - a coronary event will strike one person in the United States once in every 26 seconds . I really do find it the same to the OA :(
