what is meaning of " Argentinos speak Spanish as Uruguayans do"
this sentence basically means the same thing as Argentinos speak Spanish like Uruguayans.

if you wrote that sentence with a comma, on the other hand -- i.e., "Argentinos speak Spanish, as Uruguayans do" -- then it would have the same meaning as Like Uruguayans, Argentinos speak Spanish.
Ron, please, help
so, there are howmany ways for this

I speak English like Uru= I speake English as Uru dose

this means we speak English in the same way

like Uru, I speake English =I speak English, as Uru dose

this means, we have a common action of speaking English.

Is my thinking correct, Jone?

Hi could an expert please guide me as to how to discern between a Like and As .
A like is used to compare nouns
As is used to compare clauses
The reason i am finding it difficult is that the MGMAT SC guide says that we must use helping verbs "be , do , have " only to remove ambiguity else we prefer to do away with units , verbs and even clauses .
I was stuck between B and D here .
In D , the As the planets could have as as well been a clause with a hidden verb " are "
As the planets ( are ), the stars are in motion, some of
them at tremendous speeds, but they are
This is such a subtle thing that i was not able to decide between B and D
Could you help please ?
B

The stars, some of them at tremendous speeds, are in
motion just as the planets are, yet being so far away
from Earth that their apparent positions in the sky do
not change enough for their movement to be observed
during a single human lifetime.
(A) The stars, some of them at tremendous speeds,
are in motion just as the planets are, yet being
(B) Like the planets, the stars are in motion, some
of them at tremendous speeds, but they are
(C) Although like the planets the stars are in motion,
some of them at tremendous speeds, yet
(D) As the planets, the stars are in motion, some of
them at tremendous speeds, but they are
(E) The stars are in motion like the planets, some of
which at tremendous speeds are in motion but
my reasoning why B is correct...

option A - yet... (should be an independent clause - not the case OUT)
option B - Correct.. Like comparing noun with noun
option C - same as A
option D - but connects 2 independent clauses. "as" is usually used to compare equality not similarity between things so OUT
options E - but should connect an independent clause - not the case - OUT

Can someone please validate my reasoning here?

***I havent read the full thread yet still posting a reply.

@sumgb, here is my take from earlier. You can compare with others in this thread.
XLogic wrote:(B) Like the planets, the stars are in motion, some
of them at tremendous speeds, but they are

B is correct because "Like" properly compares two nouns, and the pronouns are not ambiguous.
i.e., Like X, Y is in motion, some of them (Y) at Z speeds, but they (Y) are...

Wrong Options: Wrong = bold

(A) ... yet being ("being" does not function as a verb here.)
(C) Although like the planets the stars are in motion,
some of them at tremendous speeds, yet (missing pronoun+verb "they are")
(D) As the planets, the stars are in motion... (Close, but to be grammatically correct it should have read "As the planets are, the stars are in motion..." etc.)
(E) The stars are in motion like the planets, some of
which
... ("some of which" now refers to planets instead of stars)
You'll also benefit from Ron's deep analysis of Like vs. As...

Cheers.
