Original meaning: Personal preference is given priority.
a. and more on
b. but more on
c. as on
d. than
e. than on (curator's desire to be definitive takes priority over Personal preferences )
Isn't there a change in meaning ?
Please help me to understand this one!
TIA,

Comparision:
John spends less money on clothing than on food.
Meaning: John spends MORE money on food.
As I noted in my post above, LESS on one thing -- all on its own -- implies MORE on something else.
Answer choice E:
The selection is based less on her desire than on her preferences.
Meaning:
The selection is based MORE on her preferences.
Thus, E conveys the intended meaning more concisely and more idiomatically than does A.
As Bill noted, the correct idiom is
less X than Y.
