I took my first practice test yesterday evening after a long day of work and few hours of sleep over the weekend. I scored 490 (Q 28 V 30) so I am bit bummed about it, but at least I've an ideas of where I am relative my goal of a perfect score 800!

I am giving myself four months, do think that's sufficient to improve by 310 point? Do you know of anyone who has a perfect score? For practice, I have the BTG 700+ problems, the Knewton program, OG, and a Kaplan Premier 2008 book. Do I need some more? Any advice about method to practice and ace the GMAT?

I know my response is long but please read through it:
(I know I am also a very new member, but I have been a silent observer for quiet sometime.)

A score of 800 is an incredible goal, and for that I applaud you for setting your standard high. I myself have a goal of 720 unfortunately on practice tests I have scored the highest of 530. I have been working at this for roughly 1 1/2 months now. 800 is not impossible, remember nothing is impossible. Though I must pause there, yes 800 is possible, but you cannot stress yourself out over a goal that might be out of reach. (Please do not take offense, I do not know you nor do I know your level of education or experience with Mathematics and the English language.) You must know though one of the most important rules in studying for the GMAT is: To set a goal that is within reach and is reasonably obtainable.

After your first two practice tests you now know the GMAT is a CAT test, (CAT= Computer Adaptive Test). This simply means that as the questions that you answer correctly, the test program will adapt to your skill level and proceed to give you harder questions. So hypothetically the test could give you a question like 1+1 for the first question (which it will not) if you were to get every single question correct, by the end of the exam it would probably be throwing you questions just shy of Differential equations. I am sure you can see now why I stress an obtainable goal is so Important.

SO though 800 is a great goal, I would recommend though, that you set your goal at a much more reasonable level. If you choose to keep you goal at 800, In the end you could stress yourself out and be subject to "burning out." Due to the pursuit of perfection. A much more reasonable goal would be around the 700-750 range. Statistically speaking, a score in that range should get you into any school out there, with solid work experience, and GPA.

I would like to add that; I by no means, wish to askew you from your goal. Your Goal and the relationship you develop with your goal is one of the most important aspects of your GMAT journey. I believe that there are people out there that have scored 800, I have yet to see one on here. I do feel that it is the responsibility of the members of this forum to help each other out, in whatever way they can. I wish you the best of luck with your studies, and the people on this forum are only hear to help! This Site is an unbelievable resource!

Take a look at the 700 plus stories here they are great inspiration!

As far as time is considered I would say you have plenty of time to score a 700+. Study efficiently and read through the books take plenty of notes (You will be surprised just how much knowledge you retain while taking notes).

Additional Shopping List:
At least a 2: 3 Subject Notebooks (One for verbal and one for Quant.)
I would personally add the 8 strategy guides that the Manhattan GMAT offers they are superb resources and will for sure bump your score up!
Another Great resource is the GMATPrep Software closest thing to a the real test.
Personally I would drop Kaplan premier since it is now three years old and going through knewton, og, and kap, you would only be receiving regurgitated information in just another form and wording MGMAT ALL THE WAY!

now go out there and BEAT THE GMAT!!:D

P.S. Please message me to let me know if this at all helped you I would be happy to help you out in any other way I can
