why not A or B?
You forgot to underline it...
I suppose in A and B, it is ambiguous, single strain or practice?
IMO E
OA?

Actually the "it" in the sentence above is also underlined in the right version of the question whcih makes a big difference here.....

If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it increases the likelihood that the impact of a single crop disease or pest will be disastrous.
(A) If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it

If a single...-> cannot be a practice
The use of something can be a practice

(B) If a single strain of plant is used for a given crop over a wide area, as is fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, it

(C) A practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods, a single strain of plant used for a given crop over a wide area

Modifier error i.e a practice cannot be a single strain of plant

(D) A single strain of plant used for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods,

Modifier error i.e a single strain of plant cannot be a practice

(E) The use of single strain of plant for a given crop over a wide area, a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods,

The use can be a practice. Correct

If we remove the non essential modifier between the 2 commas (a practice fostered by modern seed-marketing methods) then the sentence reads:

The use of single strain of plant for a given crop over a wide area increases the likelihood that the impact of a single crop disease or pest will be disastrous

Friendly request to ALL including myself:

I completey understand that it's an unintentional mistake but in general please double check the question (underlined part) and the OA before posting the question and the OA. Also if possible let's avoid the IMO's but instead dive deep in to projecting the actual errors in each choice(atleast what we think it is)

Good luck!

Regards,
CR

Really sorry for the mistake....However it was understood from choice A that underline continues upto 'it'. I have subsequently corrected the error.
Thanks for explanation of answer choices. Ur proposal of avoiding IMO's without explanation is well appreciated.
