1 votes for Alien

by sanju09 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 3:08 am
From a list of four movies, four friends discuss their favorite movies. At least 2 friends vote for Matrix, not more than 3 vote for Mummy, 1 votes for Alien and 2 vote for Jerry McGuire. If two friends have exactly voted for 2 different movies, and 2 friends for exactly 3 different movies, then how many votes did Matrix get?
(A) 2
(B) 3
(C) 4
(D) 5
(E) Can't say

Total votes = 2*3 + 2*2 = 10
( since, 2 friends vote twice and other 2 vote three times)

Now, Alien has 1 vote, jerry maguire has 2
So, that's a total of 3.

Total votes cast by friends = Sum of votes for all movies
=> 10 = mummy + matrix + alien + maguire
=> mummy + matrix = 10 -3 = 7
mummy =< 3 (can't be more than 3)
matrix >=2
Also, matrix =< 4 .. as we can have a maximum of 4 votes for a movie, if all the friends vote for it.
So, the only case possible is
=> mummy = 3
=> matrix = 4

hence C.
