The temperature dropped suddenly last night, which will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.

A. which will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.
B. which will mean that the frost will kill the shoots emerging from the soil.
C. and this will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.
D. and the resulting frost will kill the shoots that are emerging from the soil.
E. and as a result, the shoots will be killed by the frost, emerging from the soil.

IMO E
a)which refers to night and hence changes the meaning

b) same as a

c) is wordier but no grammatical error

d)use of and (a conjuction is not getting justified here) and implies continutaion of idea from prev cluase but here the second clause is an effect of previous cluase and not a continutation of idea

e)emerging is modifying the sub and verb of previous clause correctly hence ok

now E wins over C as C is wordier

Only because it is concise. "and" is a conjunction. I would think that we are not joining two disparate sentences / thoughts. "Which" seems like the right connecting word for the clause to start with.

which has no clear antecedent

same fault as A
C. and this will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.
this is not clear here
D. and the resulting frost will kill the shoots that are emerging from the soil.
correct
E. and as a result, the shoots will be killed by the frost, emerging from the soil.
passive construction
