Please advise me on strategy

by gmatlady » Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:19 am
Hey everybody, I just took the GMAT this morning and scored a dismal 530. This is quite disappointing since I was aiming for 650 and above (I am already over it and ready to get to work). I really believe that I can score at that level. I ran out of time on both sections. I feel that if I take it again I will achieve my goal. The school I am applying to offers scholarships based on GMAT scores and I NEED the scholarship--- almost only way I would afford an MBA.

I used veritas for my 7 weeks preparation, (their on-demand option) so I still have access to. I did learn from the veritas material but I need either more material or a different approach. I do have a copy of the OG Verbal, Quant and OG Review 11th edition though I did not have sufficient time to go through these OG Copies (I just skimmed through the last few days).

Please advise. I would like to take the test first week on November giving me 4 weeks from now. And I am willing to put in as much time as I need.[/b]

I believe all the GMAT aspirants abide by an universal rule..Start your prep with OG..After you are done with it you can go through other materials..If you can put in 3-4 hrs a day in the weekdays and 6-8 hrs a day in the weekends you should be able to achieve your target..As for you GMAT score ..don't feel dejected.Identify your weak areas and work on it..Take a set(usually 25 ques) of CR,SC,DS & PS daily and its very important that you time yourself.Practice a few sets daily and ensure that you take up as many practice tests as possible..I am sure you will come out with flying colors in your next GMAT attempt.

Thanks for your kind words and the advise. I really should have started with the OGs. I started with the veritas material then ran out of time... against better judgement I sat the exam anyway. I guess I should have rescheduled. Anyway, I am already suprisingly over that score. I gave myself today to relax, and as from tomorrow I am working those OGs from cover to cover... no time to waste.. got a goal to achieve
