dumb.doofus wrote:756). The five hundred largest manufacturing firms in the United States produce goods that are worth almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain.

(A) that are worth almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain

(B) of a worth that is almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain

(C) almost as much in worth as those of the remaining four hundred thousand firms

(D) almost as much in worth as that of the remaining four hundred thousand firms.

(E) worth almost as much as those of the remaining four hundred thousand firms
IMO - E is the best answer.

the hardest question require us to find the logic of sentence

here we somthing with "those, that " of 4000 firms. so "those, that" must be "goods" not "worth". we can not say "worth" of 4000 firm". and "those" is correct. "that" is wrong.

C is better because "worth" is a noun and can not sit next to "goods"

C is correct

756). The five hundred largest manufacturing firms in the United States produce goods that are worth almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain.

(A) that are worth almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain--<""that are worth"" is wordy ,same thing can be written "goods worth" then as much as is not able to find the correct comparison strings here >

(B) of a worth that is almost as much as that of the four hundred thousand firms that remain<Again wordy and awkward choice , goods of a worth cant be represented by the ""that "" part after as much as-- goods is the plural noun>

(C) almost as much in worth as those of the remaining four hundred thousand firms<Feasible option but not the best -- goods are compared here with the "those" and ""as much in worth as ""makes the comparison a bit odd compared to choice E >

(D) almost as much in worth as that of the remaining four hundred thousand firms.<Again issue from the that -- it is singular>

(E) worth almost as much as those of the remaining four hundred thousand firms<Right-- goods worth is compared with the "'those" after as much as >
