Which of the following best completes the passage below?
In today’s pluralistic society, textbook publishers find themselves in an increasingly uncomfortable position. Since the schools are regarded as a repository of society’s moral and cultural values, each group within society wishes to prevent any material that offends its own values from appearing in textbooks. As a result, stance on an issue is certain to run afoul of one group or another. And since textbook publishers must rely on community goodwill to sell their books, it is inevitable that______
(A) fewer and fewer publishers will be willing to enter the financially uncertain textbook industry
(B) the ethical and moral content of textbooks will become increasingly neutral and bland
(C) more and more pressure groups will arise that seek to influence the content of textbooks
(D) the government will be forced to intervene in the increasingly rancorous debate over the content of textbooks
(E) school boards, teachers, and principals will find it nearly impossible to choose among the variety of textbooks being offered

IMO B

Lets break down the information given.

Publishers are in an uncomfortable position. Why?

Because publishers have to depend on community goodwill to sell their books.

So they have to be really careful regarding what they publish, in order to make sure that they don't offend the values of any group.

Hence, they cannot take a stand on any issue because this would offend the group that is opposing the issue and publishers would have to be politically correct.

So whatever they publish will have a neutral point of view. Plus since itll be non controversial itll be quite bland.

So B Whats the OA?

One more for B

As a result, stance on an issue is certain to run afoul of one group or another. And since textbook publishers must rely on community goodwill to sell their books, it is inevitable that______

(C) more and more pressure groups will arise that seek to influence the content of textbooks
Apply the option C to the above conclusion. Publishers should rely on community goodwill, It is unavoidable that more and more pressure groups will rise to seek influence.

Does this one rightly fit to the argument. No not at all!!!

(B) the ethical and moral content of textbooks will become increasingly neutral and bland
Publishers should rely on community goodwill, It is unavoidable that moral content of books will become bland

Rightly fit into the argument...

Hope this is clear.

yes it should be B

as publisher will pacify the goodwill of society and will not publish anything offensive

Thus they will publish neutral things

I like option B. So, B is OA?
