by thephoenix » Mon Feb 22, 2010 5:54 am
The relationship between cell phone use and the incidence of brain tumors is still unclear, this is because some studies show a causal relationship while others do not.

a.is still unclear, this is because some studies show

b.is still unclear; some studies show

c.are still unclear because some studies show

d.is still unclear because: some studies show

e.is still unclear; the reason is that some studies show

my ans differs from OA

I think, the reason is that is redundant in E. IMO B. The second half tells why the relationship is unclear.

Adding my 2 cents...

few of us, already narrowed down to B and E.

I'll choose B because:

(E) "the reason is that" is unnecessarily wordy.
The more concise version in answer choice (B) is preferred.

and y a subordinate structure is wrong here

well guys OA is B

but my ans was A
because i thought in A the clause after comma is dependent on preceding clause and therefore comma is justified

but i am wrng y????????

IMO the presence of this is killed the subordinate behavior and created comma splice. Had it been without that, option A wud have been fine.

Thanks for the clarification and introducing one useful link to us. Now I got it clear why option A is wrong and why Y wins here.
