I also go for D. While many others support C.

I cannot tell that C change the meaning, while I think E is not as good as D.

yangliu0401, What's the OA??

I considered option D wrong because it changes the meaning.

My understanding is that option D has a common subject Bee's stringer and two predicates joined by coordinating conjunction'and'
The sentence says that

The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and (The heavily barbed stinger) results in the act of stinging causing.....

The honey bee's stinger doesn't result in act of stinging?

I may be wrong but then I want to know my mistake....
