A certain clerk's monthly salary is equal to a fixed base rate plus a commission that is directly proportional to the number of items sold during the month. If 20,500 items are sold this month, what will be the clerk's salary for the month?

Last month, 16,000 items were sold.
Last month, the clerk's salary was $1,225.
A Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

salary = base + commission
comm = k * (no of units sold in a month)

statement 1)
nothing abt this month.. insufficient

statement 2)
nothing abt this month.. insufficient

together
we know the total salary for last month = 1225 = b + comm
we cant figure out the comm component from this... if we had, then we could have figured out the k factor for calculating comm and then could have found out this months salary...
since its not possible, together they are insufficient..
