The speaker claims that human nature dictates that every action, no matter how selfless it appears, is inspired by a selfish reason. In my view speaker’s view can not be generalized. It depends on the individual’s nature. For some individuals this may be applicable but not for all.
The main reason for my view is based on the extraordinary selfless acts that I came across during my readings about great social service workers. For example, social service offered by mother Teresa to the people of Kolkata, India. Her service was selfless. In the process she was able to inspire others towards social work. She established missionaries of charity to serve the poor people of India without expecting anything back from them. The readings about mother Teresa are worth noting and a true example of selfless acts.
On the other hand, normally selfish acts are very common in this world. Many corporations are doing social service but with a selfish motive behind it. Corporations are showing their social service as a reason to reduce the income tax on their profits and show this as an excuse as if they are more concerned about the community. From outside it looks like a cause of concern towards society but actually not.
In sum I conclude that speaker’s view may be correct in some cases but not in all the cases.
