"Status as a 'superpower' does not make a country responsible for policing world affairs. Even a superpower should remain neutral towards world events except in cases of self-defense."
A country gains the status of Superpower because of its strong economy and because of its military prowess. These countries are considered world powers and hold a strong position among other nations. Many countries have built nuclear capabilities. Some of these nations even resort to promoting terrorism because of a section of their society who is fundamentalist in their outlook. Hence, there needs to be some deterence from superpowers to have a check on these nations. I believe Superpowers help maintain these checks by policing world affairs.
Firstly, Superpower nations have strong military forces. this puts deterence on other nations which promote terrorism and give shelter to notorious people who not only harm their own people by misguiding them but also cause harm to world in general. It is not possible for an ordinary developing country to face and control these extremist people. These developing countries have other challenges to resolve before contributing at a bigger scale. However, the same is not true for Superpower countries.
Secondly, there needs a leader to bring about change and resolve conflicts. These superpowers are looked upon as leaders as they take initiative in resolving conflicts. For example, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, there were protests against through out world. But not many countries dared to help Kuwait because of their military limitations. However, USA took lead and with the help of NATO (USA is a member of NATO), waged a military attack against Iraq which finally made Iraq to free Kuwait. This helped Kuwait to regain its Sovereignity.
Thirdly, Superpower nations have strong economy. They in a way also help other poor and developing nations finance critical development projects in these nations like building roads, dams, helping in natural calamities etc. In return, the developing nations support these superpowers in their policing. For example, when USA waged war in Afghanistan against Taliban, a terrorist outfilt, it needed support for base its military and a route for its supplies. USA is a big financial donor to Pakistan. hence, Pakistan provided USA much needed support in the war in Afghanistan.
Finally, these superpowers do play a significant role in policing world affairs. However, i believe they should make sure that this is being done keeping in mind the betterment of the world. IN no way, this should be done to fulfill some personal selfish interests. after all, it is a moral duty of a rich and powerful cousin to help his poor cousin and not take benefit out of it.
