“Businesses are as likely as are governments to establish large bureaucracies, but bureaucracy is far more damaging to a business than it is to a government.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

Above statement is saying that bureaucracies such as "Red Tape", unnecessary rules and regulations, time consuming formalities and unwanted importance to authorities are as likely as to occur in businesses as are in governments. I would like to say that I don't agree with the author. Businesses run on completely different rules and principles and it is less likely that bureaucracies will occur in businesses.

First of all, businesses are managed by individual owners or CEO’s and share holders. For instance, Microsoft is managed by Bill Gates or Apple is controlled by Steve Jobs. These individual owners and share holders are very much interested in profits and management of businesses are under continues pressure to show results. In such cases businesses cannot afford to develop bureaucracies as bureaucracies affect the profit in one or the other way. Moreover if one compares businesses to governments, he will find that governments are huge entities and they involve large number of people as compared to businesses. Along with that in governments there are lots of rules and regulations. Before making any decision governments are required to take general public and oppositions into confidence. In short, I think that due to several reasons bureaucracies are more likely to establish in governments as compared to businesses.

To enforce above thinking I would like to provide example of Indian Government and Indian Industry. Indian Government is not one of the efficient governments. Bureaucracies affect the working of governments to a large extent. In recent survey done by international agency, Indian citizens also expressed their unhappiness about bureaucracies. But if we compared Indian Governments to Indian Industry we will see that Industry is making significant progress. Indian IT industry is well respected in the world. But along with that Indian Industry is making significant progress in Steel, Car and Business Out Processing (BPO) areas. All of this is possible because there is less bureaucracies in Indian Industry as compared to Indian Government.

In addition to above statements I would also like to add that bureaucracies are equally if not more threatening to governments as compared to companies. Due to bureaucracies a nation can compromise on important decisions, citizens of a country could loose their hopes. Therefore, I think that normal public as well as governments should take more and more interest in getting rid of bureaucracies.
