The standardized system is indeed a cumbersome even for many talented students. For example people applying for university have to pass admission test which include frequently irrelevant questions for the field of their studies. And the logical flaw of what the author believes is that such a test being the only available control system is inevitable for judging students equally. This statement mismatches the purpose of what the tests are intended for - to identify suitability of candidates which largely vary in their skills and abilities.
Whether should tests be standardized or adapted? - is a controversial question and as everything else, each approach has it's own pros and cons. Standardized test is easiest at implementation, it also boasts of easy rating system and suits best for testing of mass. In contrast specialised test system needs to be adapted to each subject alone, thanks specifically designed system , students can be rated accurately. However such a test demands a constant observation and adjustments thereby costs much more than the ordinary one.
On the other hand standard test lets reveal all round knowledge of students and their suitability for further education. And this is crucial as in the modern world where all fields of studies are intersected and therefore students must posses enough skills to thrive in their studies. One bright example in favour of standard test system is computer literacy, being directly irrelevant for many professions it defines how good a candidate can be at retrieving, processing and searching of information - which is nowadays is an essential part of any studies.
Summing up the point, expressed by the author - that standardized tests is the control tool used for equal judging of students, sounds unjustified and lack of vivid evidences to support such a point. To make the point more viable the author could've cited mixed test system as one of the examples where advantages of standard approach joint with elective modules to allow students to better show their potential.
