Profile Evaluation

I wish to apply to the Full-time MBA program starting in 2010.

I have taken GMAT thrice. My best score is 660.

I'm working in a start-up in Chennai - RedMagic Media Pvt Ltd (www.redmagicmedia.com) that provides web-based multimedia solutions. I was working as an Online Content Editor. About 4 months back, I assumed the role of a Project lead.

I graduated in 2007 with a Bachelors in Engineering(Electronics and Communication) from SSN Engineering college, Chennai, India with an aggregate score of 80%.

My interest include blogging and movies. My blog link is www.bornalike.wordpress.com

Which are the kind of colleges to which I could apply?

Hi ramki,

In order to suggest potential programs it would be helpful for me if you shared your goals. Can you describe your short and long term goals for me?

Thanks,

Stacey

Hi Stacey,

I want to get into product management in the online space. Typically I'm looking at roles that would require me to be involved in contributing to new product development by researching user preferences and coordinating with the development team and also in the marketing of new products.

My long term goal is to get into Brand Management and start my own creative studio to provide branding solutions.

I want to get into programs that are recognized for General Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship and also where there is scope for me to get scholarships.

Thanks
Ramakrishnan

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. If you wish to attend a general management program you should consider Kelley, Emory, Fisher, and USC. All of these schools have solid general management programs. These school also have solid marketing courses and programs.

I recommend that also consider location and class size as part of your decision process on where to apply. Two years is a long time and you want to be sure you are happy not just in your program, but in your location and environment.

Best,

Stacey

Hi Stacey,

Thank you for your suggestions.

Do you think I will have a realistic chance at the schools you have mentioned given that I have only 660 on GMAT and will have 3 years experience at the time of joining these programs?

Thanks and Regards,
Ramakrishnan

Hi,

You certainly can be competitive, however, the key to a successful application is putting together solid essays. You'll want to highlight your leadership and teamwork experiences to date as well as use examples from outside of the workplace. Most business school applicants have 2-5 years of work experience, so right now really is a great time in your career for you to apply.

Best,

Stacey
