Early Acceptance?

by Kaunteya1 » Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:52 am
Hello, I just got off the phone with Univeristy of Montreal. I applied March 14th (March 15th deadline). I informed the university of my travels through South East Asia and India in 3 weeks, and that I would be returning to Canada late June. They responded by telling me that they would review my application first, and give me their decision early next week (April 21st-25th). How should I evaulate this response? Does it put in an advantageous spot to be evaluated relatively early in their decision making process?

University of Montreal has 3 entrance groups all for this coming fall. 50 Students in French Full Time, and 2 groups of 100 Students English Full Time. I am in the English group. Roughly 350-400 students applied to the english program this year. Unlike american schools the application deadline is just months before the fall entrance.

University of Montreal has already evaulated their 100 applicants for the 50 full time French spots, and now are working on their English applicants.
The acedemic advisor did not implicitly say that she liked my applcation, but hinted towards it, saying "I was in a strong position", "my gmat scores are above the acceptable average", "my backround as a chef, is interesting, and different"...ect...

Thanks for listening.

Dear Kaunteya1,

Sounds like good news to me! Since you will be out of the country for a long period of time, my guess is they are trying to conduct your interview (if there is one) and get a decision to you before you go. Which is very nice on their part and shows they are trying to make a good impression on you as well. It is advantageous to be reviewed early as they have less to compare you to and more seats to offer, but I would be cautiously optimistic as you can never predict admissions decisions. Think positively!

Regards,
Lisa
