At the beginning of 2010, 60% of the population of Town X lived in the south and the rest lived in the north. During 2010, the population of Town X grew by 5.5%. If the population in the south grew by 4.5%, by how much did the population in the north grow?
A)1%
B)3.5%
C)6.5%
D)7%
E)13.75%
OAD
Let total population be 100
so in South the population is 60 and the north the population is 40.
according to the question town X population is increased by 5.5% and south population is 4.5, so it is well understood that north population is grew by 1% right?
so north increase population = 40(1+1/100)
404/10 = 40.4
so north percentage change is (40.4-40/40)100
which is 1%.
Please advise and correct me.
