Can such as and "such.....as" be used for giving examples?

AS FAR AS I KNOW "SUCH AS" IS USED FREQUENTLY, but can this"such....as" also be used for the same purpose? I had read somewhere that such...as cannot be used for giving examples, but, to lay emphasis on something.

Please clarify!
You can, for example never foretell what any one man will do, but you can say with precision what an average number will be up to!

Such X's as Y and Z can serve to introduce examples.
The OA to an SC in GMATPrep employs the following sort of construction:
