two actions in past we need to differ them in seq hence use past perfect is require here

Assuming that the whole sentence is underline as it is repeated in option 1.
4 and 5 are confusing.
Of 1, 2 and 3 if more than one event has taken place in the past, Past Perfect tense is to be used for the first event and simple past for the later. Hints from MGMAT.

He had resisted the assingnment Past Perfect
successfully led Simple Past

so IMO B.
