1000 SC Q - 878 Please confirm

Trying to learn some of the basics of programming is the same as to tinker with a car when one is a teenager: some people end up going to engineering school, and others, twenty years later, remember nothing of the experience.

(A) the same as to tinker with a car when one is a teenager
(B) similar to a teenager tinkering with a car
(C) like tinkering with a car as a teenager
(D) the same as a teenager tinkering with a car
(E) like the teenager's tinkering with a car

OA A

However, as per the Prachi Pareekh's website (https://gmatsentencecorrection.blogspot. ... chive.html) it is C, I also selected C. Can someone please confirm?

A) the same as to tinker with a car when one is a teenager Incorrect the same as to is AWKWARD
(B) similar to a teenager tinkering with a car Incorrect compares Trying with a teenager
(C) like tinkering with a car as a teenager
(D) the same as a teenager tinkering with a car Incorrect same problem as B
(E) like the teenager's tinkering with a car "THE TEENAGER'S TINKERING" is noun trying to learn shows action

I agree with the above.... trying to learn is like tinkering with a car... that's the kernel of the sentence.

In option A the verbs don't agree.... Trying doesn't agree with tinker...
So, I'd go with C

IMO -- A

"As" is used to compare 2 clauses -- "to learn" and "to tinker"
Paralellism is also maintained.

The problem in "C" as per me
"like" is used to compare to noun phrases -- "tinkering" is used as a gerund, this part is correct, BUT the parallelsim part "to learn" and "tinkering with car" .. this is where it fails.

Seems A is right..

Reasoning : The sentence comapres the usage of as Vs Like and parallelism

Trying to learn ........to tinker (parallelsim)

usage of "as": since 2 phrases are comapred,"as " is used.

Ok lets try POE :

1.Hold it
2.
Here we are supposed to compare the "actions" and not tne noun(teenager)--Rejected

3.Like....Hahhaah...U can't use them unless u r using it with a noun..

4.No parallelism

5.Again wrong usage of Like...

So A wins...

Agree with C
A] 'Trying' is a gerund and thus is not parallel to 'to tinker', which is an infinitive.
B] Incorrectly compares 'trying' to a 'teenager'.
D] Since 'tinkering' is a gerund, it must have been preceeded be 'teenager's' to make it gramatically correct.
E] Awkward, especially in comparison with option C.
