Has vs Have Usage

by agarwalmanoj2000 » Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:15 am
Has vs Have usage rule

If the subject is third-person singular (he, she, it, John, Sally, the cat, etc.), then use "Has", else use "Have" everywhere else.

E.g. 1) Users do not have password. (Users is third person plural, so use have)
E.g. 2) User does not has password. (User is third person singular, so use has)

E.g. 2) seems correct to me as per grammar rule but it does not sound good. Using "have" sounds better.
User does not have password.

Can someone please confirm, which one is correct and why?

User does not has password.
OR
User does not have password.

User does not have..

The plurality is taken care by do or does. Hence you use have.

Hi vineeshp,

Thanks for reply.

Do you mean to say that in example 2) has and have rules are not applicable?
Can you explain the applied grammar rule?

O m not good at grammar theory. Though I know the rules, i dunno how to explain. Sorry.

I can tell you that
do or does is followed by Have not has. That's how it is.

I do have it. He does have it.. etc.
