What is the best strategy for me?

by stanleyeales » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:35 am
I just took the OG diagnostic test. Scores:
PS- 18/24
DS-19/24
RC-16/17
CR-14/17
SC- 14/18
Overall V-37, Q-44
I've already gone through Manhattan SC, RC, word translation, NS, Geometry guide. ( Minus the solutions to OG problems and restructured questions)
Please tell me if this diagnostic test score converts to 700+ on real GMAT. (I don't want to waste the GMATprep tests now. Will need them for final practice. Just a fair idea of where I stand will do for now.)
Please also advise whether OG 12 would be sufficient for my preparation. My goal is 720+.

Hey the gmat test prep are the most accurate form of assesment available.
One thing is doing lose exercises, another is simulating the test under timed pressure and definite difference between a part and another.
Diagnostic questions are a bit complex, but again not rappresentative of what a real exam would be, don't forget that the GMAT is a CAT exam.

However for scaled scores conversion:

and

hope this will help.

OG should be your BIBLE, but as any theological scholar will tell you: you need much more than that. You need keys and commentary which without guidance it's difficult to figure out on your own...not impossible, but difficult.

Usually folks use other books in conjunction with the OG - - and even online material. We use a great online program that has over 8000 questions and gives you 360-degree understanding of math - - it seems that is what you need (only our clients have access to this material). In addition, it helps with timing and creating quizzes, based on what you get correct and wrong. Our big guns, however, are our kick ass tutors who efficiently and effectively size up your issues, and create customized action plans to get you through like a rockstar. There is NOTHING better than great material and a kick ass tutor who knows the material (not a script). Period.

In general: look at your strengths and weaknesses: I don't really know from what you wrote where your issues lie outside of the MATH in general. You need MORE to go on.

And don't forget the GMAC paper tests.

Thanks for your replies. I have already gone through the Manhattan guides for theory so I figured OG should be enough for practice. I am thinking I would practice 60 questions per day from OG with a stop watch. I would be able to complete the book in two weeks then. Currently im gauging my current level at 650+. I'll take the GMATprep once I finish the OG and see where I stand. How do you suggest I go through the OG ? Topic wise or sequentially?
