I have recently decided to prepare myself for MBA admissions. I completed a B.S. in Finance with a 3.33 GPA. I know it's not too shabby, but I do feel like I let myself down with the GPA as I slacked off quite a bit and could have done better. Luckily, standardized tests are where I've always excelled and I plan on using the GMAT to balance out the mediocre GPA and still hopfully stand out academically. I have looked at several online sources and taken practice questions. I am able to zip through the math and probably answer more than 99% of the correctly (Math has always been my strong point. I got an 800 on the SAT Math) but certain aspects of the verbal give me some trouble. The critical reading sections were pretty easy, but some of the sentece completions were tough. I'm not sure what the best method to practice is.
Aside from a stellar GMAT score, what else can be done to put less emphaisis on the GPA? I was thinking about taking some additional classes in accounting and being sure to get A's. This way the admissions board might be able to see that the lackluster performance in undergrad was a maturity issue that has been resolved. This would help me in my current position at work as well. It will be a good year or two before I have myself prepared for grad school. What are everyone's thoughts on how I can prepare myself for the test itself as well as in general. Thanks in advance.
