Hi all,
I have been studying for GMAT for more than 4 mths now. And practised from OG11 and the two review books fro GMAC. I used Manhattan strategy guides for preparation. I think I understand the concepts well now.
My problem is that I am not able to nail the 700-800 difficulty level problems .No matter how much i practise from the OG.
When ever i see a 700-800 level difficulty level problem chances are that the approach/logic doesnt come to me .Or I am not able to break down the problem into manageable bits. I have observed this weakness of mine in all the practise tests that i have given.
I gave the GMAT on Aug 1 08. Score 550 Q34 V32 .As expected in Quant I nailed the first three questions .Then i could make out that the level of difficulty was rising. So when i reached the 4th question , i guess the difficulty level was of 700-800 level question and i could get the approach. It leads in spending more time or guessing and moving ahead (i tried both techniques during my practise test) . So if i guess wrong then the level of dificulty goes down after two - three successive wrong question. In my GMAT i couldnt manage time and ended up guessing at last 8-10 questions due to lack of time. I have begun to understand the difficulty level of the question because i have tried giving Manhattan tests where in i could analyse the difficulty bin of the question I did not get right.
Conversly if i am not able to nail a problem odds are that its a 700-800 level problem and the approach or the logic doesnot strike me( regardless of the topic ) in the stipulated time or at times even if i am just practising (untimed).
Can any one guide me on how to nail the 700-800 level problems. What should i do to get them correctly. What specific type of practise you would recommend.
Normally I practise sets of 20 problems from OG. for the last set of 75-10 problems Under timed conditions my hit rate is low65% . I keep a track of what problems i got stuck in , which were conceptual errors and which were careless erors. When i see the solution i wonder why it did not strike me under timed conditions. This may sound silly but i am greatly concerned . I want to improve. What can help.Any guidance on method of studying. I am from technical background .So quants should not be problem. And i understand GMAT just tests the concepts. But i am not able to nail the toughies although they are only conceptual but twisted a bit.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I want to give GMAT again next month so that my preparation so far does not go waste. My target score is 700+ .I guess i will manage to pull up my verbal score but my quants is a problem.
thanks
